Physical Therapy Exercises for the Shoulders : Side Raise Exercise for Shoulder Physical Therapy

Hi! I am Monica and on behalf of Expert Village,
I am going to show you another strengthening exercise. For this exercise you will need
a weight or can of soup or something that will kind of weigh you down a little bit and
what we are going to do is thumbs up, you are going to want to come with your arm to
the side and just bringing it all the way up as far as you can. Again you want to make
sure you can get all the way up, unless pain or some other kind of limitation is preventing
you from getting all the way up. You want to do your movements nice and slow. It is
important to have your thumb up because if you have your thumb down like this, it makes
it harder to do the motion. You actually get stuck right about here just because you have
some bones that end up banging into each other the further you get up there. So if you have
it like this they start running into each other right about here versus thumb up, so
let’s make sure you have your thumb up doing them. You start off with 10 and then increase
your reps as it gets easier for you. If it is too hard to do it with weights, just go
ahead and do it without any weights right like that.
