Hi, I’m Kelly Raney from Triangle Orthopaedics. I’m a physical therapist and I’m gonna be showing you a few exercises post breast surgery. The next exercise, if you have a cane at home, a stick, or a broom; what you’re gonna do is your motion is gonna stay with your elbows at your side and you’re gonna bring the arm out. Again, on the involved side, you put the end of the cane, broom, or stick into the palm of your hand, with your your uninvolved hand; you’re going to move the hand out away from your body. The important thing is to keep your elbow at your side, so the motion comes from your shoulder. Again, you’ll feel a stretch right along that front muscle and then you come back. You’re gonna bring it back out, you’re gonna hold 5 to 10 seconds and slowly bring it back. Repeat this at least 10 times, 2 times a day. You bring it out, you feel the stretch, it should never go to pain, and then you bring it back.
