Twins go on different diets and they get surprising results

THE TWO OF THEM. CHRIS YOU CUT OUT FATS?>>FOR A MONTH, I HAD NO CARBS OR SUGAR. I LIVED ON MEAT, CHEESE, EGGS. >>WHAT DID YOU DO?>>I CUT OUT FAT. MY FOOD LOOKED NORMAL. EATING WAS A JOYLESS EXPERIENCE.>>WHICH IS INTERESTING BECAUSE THE TWO OF YOU BOTH LOST WEIGHT. HOW MUCH DID YOU LOSE?>>I LOST MUCH MORE. I THOUGHT I WAS WINNING. AT THE END OF THE MONTH I LOST EIGHT POUNDS. I ATE AS MUCH AS I WANTED. I ATE STEAK MOST NIGHTS AND FELL GOOD. ENERGY LEVELS WERE LOW BUT CONSTANT THROUGH THE DAY. I DIDN’T HAVE SPIKES.>>AS COMPARED TO CHRIS?>>I LOST TWO POUNDS. AT THE END OF THE DIET BEFORE WE WENT BACK TO RESEARCHERS AND DISCUSSED THE RESULTS, HE WAS CONVINCED HE SHOULD STAY ON HIS DIET. HERE’S THE KEY THING. ALTHOUGH XAND LOST WEIGHT, BY EVERY OTHER MEASURE, HIS DIET HAS BEEN BAD FOR HIM. >>IN FACT YOU ENDED UP PREDIABETIC? THAT’S ASTONISHING.>>YOU THINK IF YOU CUT SUGAR YOU WOULD MOVE AWAY FROM STRESS ON YOUR PANCREAS. MOST CALORIES WERE COMING FROM FAT.>>TALK ABOUT THAT QUICK. DID YOU CUT OUT EVERYTHING, FRUIT, JUICES — >>I CUT OUT VEGETABLES. SO LITERALLY IT WAS MEAT, CHEESE, EGGS AND FISH I GUESS. THOSE WERE THE ONLY THINGS I ATE. THIS IS NOT A SUSTAINABLE OR HEALTHY DIET FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. WHAT WAS STRIKING WAS COMPLETELY ELIMINATING SUGAR, I WAS WORSE PROCESSING SUGAR AT THE END OF THE DIET.>>YOU LEARNED A LOT. IT WAS EASIER TO FOLLOW BECAUSE YOU WERE ELIMINATING ONE THING. CHRIS, WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST TAKE A WAY YOU HAD? CLEARLY EXTREME DIETS ARE NOT SOME WAY TO LIVE. WHAT DID YOU REALLY LEARN?>>THE KEY THING IS TRYING TO FIND ONE SIMPLE SOLUTION LIKE FAT OR SUGAR IS IN THE END GOING TO CAUSE YOU PROBLEMS. DIET IS A COMPLICATED SUBJECT. TRYING TO SEEK A SIMPLE SOLUTION IS DIFFICULT. >>YOU’RE BOTH DOCTORS?>>YES, BOTH PHYSICIANS.>>WE WERE JOKING BEFORE PHYSICIANS AREN’T ALWAYS THE BEST PATIENTS.>>OH YEAH. TERRIBLE PATIENTS. MOST DON’T KNOW THAT MUCH ABOUT NUTRITION.>>SPEAK FOR YOURSELF.>>WHAT DID MOVEMENT MATTER IN THIS? DID YOU EXERCISE REGULARLY OR NOTHING?>>WHAT WE WERE NORMALLY DOING. WE’RE BOTH IN REASONABLE SHAPE.>>YOU BOTH LOOK FIT. >>THE BIG TAKE HOME MESSAGES FOR US WERE PROBABLY THE REASON WE’RE ALL GETTING — NOT ALL OF US, YOU LOOK GREAT — OBESITY IS RISING GENERALLY NOT BECAUSE OF ONE MOLECULE FAT OR SUGAR. THE PROCESSED FOOD IS HARD TO STOP EATING. IT AFFECTS YOUR B

  1. I watched the documentary based on their experiences with the two extreme diets and while the effects were somewhat surprising (or at least counterintuitive), the results just confirmed what should be common sense. The bottom line conclusion they arrived was that fad diets are ridiculous and unsustainable and the best "diet" is to eat a balanced mix of foods in moderation and combine that with a reasonable amount of exercise. Not exactly rocket science.

  2. If your any sort of educated none of these results are surprising.. Read a medical biochem book for god sake

  3. Are these men identical or fraternal twins? Key piece of info to omit, CNN.
Fraternal twins only share the same amount of DNA as siblings. These twins do not appear to be identical.

  4. The guy who developed pre-diabetes ate what sounded like a HIGH PROTEIN diet rather than a HIGH FAT diet. Excess proteins can be processed into glucose by the body for energy.  I've been on a LOW CARB HIGH FAT diet for two months and my Fasting Blood Sugar dropped from an average of 110(pre-diabetes) to an average of 92(normal). My diet consisted of moderate protein but high in fats in forms of olive oils, butter, fatty meats and coconut oil.

  5. I stopped eating bread and processed foods. He's right processed foods are addicting. It's very scary. I couldn't say no and after a week I felt better but it took a lot of will power. It was like I was on drugs very scary.

  6. High proteine & high fat + low & slow carbs is the way to do it. Gonna do something that demands energy for a prolonged time? Load fast carbs in advance! Depending on weight loss or gain change the amount of calories. But it depends on your daily activity level. Per kg body weight it should be something like : proteine/carbs/fat 2/3/1gr. Once you are lean you will stay lean easy. Been 115kg and chubby, now year in/out around 88 kg at 1.86 musculair!

  7. Plant based doctors for decades have been saying that fat paralyzes insulin receptors which causes diabetes. Finally a documentary that probes this.

  8. fuck u cont win u have sugar it's bad not having it bad i have not had sugar for 5 moths not to become a diabetic now it's bad not to have it please make up my mind I'm lost now they saying eating toast gives u cancer maybe we should all stop breathing problem solved u cont win

  9. There should be third brother who would quit fat and sugar, but not fruits nor vegetables. I would like to see that. But I like what they did and I would go with no fat diet !

  10. So fat causes insulin resistance? We've been told to reduce dietary fats for 40+ years, therefore we shouldn't have these problems called insulin resistance and diabetes all over the world, should we? With all the "help" from the so-called "experts", our "wonderful" guidelines (aka food pyramid) i.e. our "healthy" high-carb lifestyle, shouldn't we have eliminated these modern health issues by now? A very low-carb diet (< 10% of calories), i.e. full-blown ketosis, can induce what is referred to as “physiological” insulin resistance. For some people, one month just isn't enough time for getting fat adapted, especially if they are dealing with a damaged metabolism from having consumed all these carbs in the past.

  11. Protein has also insuline reactions.. So tons of protein can also lead to insuline resistance.. you have to add veggies and salad.. A protein shake results in huge insuline spike.. Fat does not..

  12. my own experiences etc say to me that Atkins low-carb , are terrible for physical/mental health energy etc

best to eat lots of produce, berries, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, herbs spices,

    drink water

    be active

get rid of Kool-Aid soda, dairy, bologna, refined grains, greasy fried foods, trans-fats, booze cigarettes unemployment helplessness fear abuse meth heroin nitrites nitrates, boxed fish, snackcakes, physical-inactivity,

best to be on a high-fiber FLEXITARIAN diet

  13. Protein will turn into sugar if you eat too much. 75%fat (healthy fats only) 20%protein and 5%carbs no sugar, no grains and the results would be COMPLETELY different.

  14. Isn't this called physcological insulin resistance where your insulin on lchf diet is low to allow muscles to use lipids as fuel and save the glucose for the brain. If insulin is low then blood glucose will naturally be high

  15. See Mastering Diabetes youtube channel with two type 1 diabetics who will explain how diabetes is caused by too much fat in the liver and muscles. If there is too much fat in liver and muscles, glucose cannot get out of the bloodstream.

  16. Eat as many plant-based whole foods even if you are a type 1 diabetic.Their a1c is always between 5.5 and 6.5 or something like that whereas before when they followed low carb there a1c was high and unpredictable.

  17. He said he didn't eat vegetables everybody should have just discarded him as credit immediately I don't know any low carb diet that doesn't tell you to not have vegetables lol

  18. Why did he cut out vegetables? No low-carb diet asks that of it's users so what scientist asked him that??? That's terrible! smdh I think these scientist were trying to derail low-carb dieting with a poor study. Don't fall for it people!

  19. I wonder what the bio-markers were for his "pre-diabetic" condition. Anyone know? I know a lot of idiotic doctors confuse the high blood ketones from the fat with a condition of diabetes known as diabetic ketoacidosis. I hope it wasn't that. Ketones from a high fat diet does increase the acidity of the blood slightly (still within normal ranges) but no way near to the point that ketoacidosis does (very dangerous).

  20. In order for you to know full scale the true marker identification of your health on low carb or keto or carnivore you MUST put MONTHS IN to allow your body to regulate and adjust. Most people find their markers all come down and are right on par.

These two doctors may very well be medical professionals but they definately carried out a poor uncontrolled study

This is what our recomendations have been tainted with, poor advice and studies.

I've been low carb 10 years now and I know first hand with as many people as I've helped guide low carb or keto it takes 3-6 months to regulate everything and then right back to spit on.

    Poorly done

  21. False News CNN at it again.

I have been low carb for 10 years and couldn't process sugar for the longest time but if I have sugar now in something my blood sugar does not increase as much as it used to now that I've been on keto and my body handles it a lot better so I think these doctors are very misinformed and I work with a lot of people that are in the same situation. This just makes CNN look just like the bad things that people say about them, poor information here 100%

  22. Well he didn’t know too much about keto because he should’ve not eaten any saturated fats at all and on a keto diet you should be eating veggies , non starchy and fibre packed veggies especially

  23. If the low carb doctor had looked properly in to ketogenic diet (which low carb is) ..done properlywith high fat /med protien /low carb / then he would have eaten greens as the carb source …he would have experiance a shift from burning sugar for fuel to burning ketones ie fat . For fuel.the brain would be clearer the energy levels would be off the scale ..inflammation would be reduced …ontop of all that you loose [email protected] there is no way he would have become pre diabetic …so this experiment is done very badly …in my oppinion…you have to be on keto long term get the sugar @ wheat which are poison out of your system …then you become fat addapted you don ' t crave sugary foods ..you can go hours @ hours without feeling hungry @ for a carb addict like i was is a miracle ..food is no longer the boss of me…i go 18 hrs without food @ now eat one meal a day of say steak with the fat greens or salad @ small bowl of berries @ heavy cream… @ im done ready to go18hrs again …i don' t care about sweet things any more ..So my advice if you are watching this.. "Stop "and look up ketogenic diet ….X if you do it right ,it will change your life for the better X

  24. 1:22
    "I cut out vegetables."
    her face

EXACTLY. like HELLO obvious red flag?? its extremely rare for you to legitimately have a bad reaction to vegetables. Its why the carnivore diet isnt really popular, but for the minority of people it does work for, its great.

if you don't have strong, adverse reactions to veggies, theres absolutely no reason to cut them out.

  25. he should of done a keto diet, hight fat moderate protein and low carb. sounds like he did a high fat high protein 0 carb diet. The high protein could have been driving that diabetes link.

  26. This does a terrible disservice to low-carb or low-sugar eating. No vegetables? What was he trying to prove? Doctors! What a load of rubbish!

  27. Simple solution, eat healthily and don't eat too much. If you're overweight, cut out as much carbs as you can and anything that has artificial or added sugars i.e. get your sugars from fruits. Also eat plenty of protein, fibre and the green stuff too.

  28. Excess protein turns into sugar in the body. That is why proponents of ketogenic dieting emphasize eating lots of greens and only MODERATE amounts of animal protein, with fat as the primary energy source.

  29. I am moving towards low carbs. Vegetables is a big part of it and meat is still low because I moved back from vegetarianism

  30. This was the stupidest exercise in tv sensationalism … all it proved was that twin doctors not trained in nutrition, nor expert in intermittent fasting or ketogenics who are engaged in a ridiculous made for tv pseudo research project arrive at no real insight other than diet is complex … this was a mockumentary not a documentary

  31. Whole foods plant based diet for the win, then transition into veganism and bam, reduce your carbon footprint dramatically and make some ethical gains.

Make starches (complex carbs) your staples and you will be flying, specifically beans and lentils. The health benefits are overwhelming too, with even some peoples advanced atherosclerosis regressing, with previous stens, triple bypasses, all types of medication and standard cardiac care and procedures, given a year to live which can be seen by specialized equipment (about a dozen studies carried out by these individual researchers: Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Dean Ornish and Dr. Nathan Pritikin).

Science based channels: NutritionFacts (health only), Mic the Vegan (covers science on health and environment), Vegan Gains (lots of debates too).

Check them out. Also Plant Based News if you like interviews and personal stories of doctors, their experience and etc, all types of topics.

New documentary that's coming out called "The Game Changers", look up the trailer it's going to be epic.
